Which Salt Lake City med spas does AI recommend?
We asked an OpenAI model with live web search (through its API) 20 customer-style questions about med spas in Salt Lake City, three times each. Consumer AI apps can answer differently. Across 60 answers, seven med spas took most of the recommendations. Of 50 med spas operating in the Salt Lake City area, 30 were never named once.
The short version
- 30 of 50 Salt Lake City area med spas were not named in any of the 60 answers.
- 43 of 60 answers named at least one of the same three businesses.
- 23 of 60 answers sent med spa customers to dermatology practices, plastic surgeons or a hospital system, instead of or alongside a med spa.
- When the assistant said where it found a business, the most common answer was the business's own website (78 of 203 sources), followed by directories (43) and review sites (18).
The med spas AI named most
Counts are how many of the 60 answers named the business, and in how many of the 20 different questions it came up at least once.
| # | Med spa | Answers naming it | Questions it came up in |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Nuance Aesthetics | 20 of 60 | 12 of 20 |
| 2 | SkinSpirit Salt Lake City | 20 of 60 | 10 of 20 |
| 3 | Imago Medical Spa | 19 of 60 | 9 of 20 |
| 4 | Elase Medical Spa (Sugar House) | 13 of 60 | 8 of 20 |
| 5 | Alchemy Medical Aesthetics | 11 of 60 | 6 of 20 |
| 6 | Beauty Lab + Laser (Murray) | 9 of 60 | 7 of 20 |
| 7 | Vue Medical Spa | 6 of 60 | 3 of 20 |
Thirteen more med spas on our list were named between one and four times. We are not publishing the list of the 30 that were never named: a missing result is fixable, and it says nothing about the quality of anyone's work.
Where the assistant found the businesses it named
The assistant is not judging who does the best filler. It names the businesses it can describe with confidence from what it finds in a live search. For each business it named, we asked it to say where it found it. Of 203 answers to that question, 78 pointed to the business's own website, 43 to a directory and 18 to a review site.
For a med spa owner, that points to three things worth checking:
- Your own site does the most work. Each treatment you want to be found for deserves its own page that says what it is, who it is for and that you offer it in Salt Lake City, in plain text rather than inside an image.
- Say where you are in words. Several questions named a place (Salt Lake City, Sugar House, downtown). A site that states its city and neighborhood in text is easier to match to those questions.
- Make your listings agree. Directories and review sites were the next most common sources. When their name, address and phone match your website exactly, the assistant has several sources agreeing on one business.
Our guide on why AI recommends your competitor explains these causes in more depth, and the AI visibility checklist turns them into an afternoon of work.
How we did this
- Questions: 20 questions written the way customers ask an assistant, covering "best" and "near me" questions, specific treatments, price, first-timer nerves and medical weight loss. The full list is below.
- Engine: OpenAI's GPT-5.6 with live web search, set up as a consumer assistant answering a customer in Salt Lake City, with search localised to Salt Lake City. It was never told which businesses we were tracking.
- Repeats: each question was asked three times, because AI answers vary from run to run. All 60 runs completed a live web search; a run without one would have been discarded, not counted.
- The list of 50: med spas and medical aesthetics clinics operating in Salt Lake City, Millcreek, Holladay, Murray, Cottonwood Heights and West Valley City in October 2026, each confirmed against its own website. A chain counts as its local location only.
- Matching: a med spa counts as named when an answer used its name, including obvious variants ("Elase Med Spa" for "Elase Medical Spa - Sugar House"). A different location of the same brand does not count.
- Limits: this is one engine on one day. ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Google's AI answers differ from each other and change over time. Treat it as a snapshot, not a ranking.
